Facebook has had its fair share of controversy lately, after privacy issues with the Facebook Messenger app arising, but now the social media company is set to launch an anonymous app.
The point of it is to cater for those Facebook users who don’t want to use their real names to interact with one another, or have been fearing Facebook from the start with concern for their own privacy.
The app, which is expected to be released in the coming weeks, reveals a different, experimental take on Facebook’s long-established approach to identity. The point, according to these people, is to allow Facebook users to use multiple pseudonyms to openly discuss the different things they talk about on the Internet; topics of discussion which they may not be comfortable connecting to their real names.
It’s a strange turnaround since last month, where Facebook demanded people to use their “legal name” on their profiles. I guess everyone can change…
