It’s official – the war on machines has begun.
People are now targeting drones as the initial grunt soldiers in the Man vs. Machine war. But in all seriousness, it’s pretty ridiculous that certain hunters in the United States are targeting drones for no apparent reason.
According to police in Lower Township, New Jersey, last Friday, one man shot down his neighbour’s quadcopter with his shotgun, which is of course illegal.
The Federal Aviation Administration has previously suggested that “shooting at an unmanned aircraft could result in criminal or civil liability, just as would firing at a manned airplane.”
This is a similar situation which happened at the Broxton Bridge Plantation, where a group of hunters, recklessly and in violation of SC DNR regulations, shot down a camera equipped drone owned by ‘Showing Animals Respect and Kindness’, or SHARK. The video is embedded above.
In more drone shooting news, a YouTuber has also recently been criminally charged for his drone attacks.
Russell Percenti, an (alleged) real-life Johnny Dronehunter, was arrested on charges of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal mischief. Federal statute suggests that anyone who “sets fire to, damages, destroys, disables, or wrecks any aircraft” can face up to 20 years in prison.
