Some of these names will come as no surprise to anyone, having each had a moment in the headlines at one time or another.
But here they are: the richest black men in South Africa.
Coming in at number five is Phuthuma Nhleko, with a cosy nest-egg of $142 million. He was the CEO of MTN and is chairman of Worldwide African Investment Holdings, which has interests in the petroleum, telecommunications and information technology industries.
At number four we have Sipho Nkosi. He slums it out with $163 million. He is the founder of Eyesizwe Coal, and is the CEO of Exxaro Coal. He was also a previous president of the SA Chamber of Mines.
Third place belongs to our favourite, Mosima Gabriel “Tokyo” Sexwale, worth $200 million. He is not one to be shy of the news. He is a big name in the diamond industry, with his company, Mvelaphanda Group, coming up just behind De Beers and the JFPI Corporation. Tokyo was also given the title of Minister of Human Settlements in 2009.
In second place we have Cyril Ramaphosa and his $550 million. He literally has a list of things he is involved in… From being the chairman of Bidvest and MTN, and a non-executive director at Macsteel Holdings, Alexander Forbes and Standard Bank, Cyril is doing OK. Most of his money was made through the Shanduka group.
