You KNOW, if you have travelled anywhere that needs a passport, that you do not lie on your customs card. You just don’t. You can try to hide stuff in a tennis ball. But you gladly show them your Yellow Fever vaccination booklet. You don’t even bother trying to bring in seeds and small reptiles.
Thomas Eric Duncan, didn’t bother with telling the truth on his customs card. And now, there is widespread panic in America. Duncan was admitted to the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, TX, on Sunday. He was feeling ill, and it was then discovered that he had Ebola. He went to America to visit his sister.
Unfortunately, whilst still in Liberia last week, Duncan tried to help a 19-year old woman, who later died of Ebola.
Once admitted, the nurse took down all his details, though, and entered onto the hospital system that Duncan had been in west Africa. This information didn’t pass on to doctors though.
“A flaw in the electronic health records system prevented physicians from receiving that information.”
Over 100 people that could have been in contact with Duncan are now being monitored for Ebola symptoms.
