Air raids were carried out this week by the US, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, targeting small oil refineries in eastern Syria.
These small-scale refineries have been taken over by Islamic State militants, and are used for funding via the black market. And god knows we do not want to help fund anything IS related.
The Pentagon has said that the reason for the strikes was to destroy the facilities, and not to kill IS militants.
“They still have plenty of volunteers. They still have plenty of weapons and vehicles and the ability to move around.”
The Pentagon also says it is far too soon to talk about “winning”.
