The stereotypical typecast of surfers is that they’re so uber-zen and super-chilled that they’d avoid all forms of conflict… until their surf spots are threatened.
Martins Beach, an epic surfing spot, bra, was sealed off from Californian surfers because some rich dude, Vinod Khosla, a co-founder of Sun Microsystems, blocked access to the beach with his gnarly property.
Not cool, bro.
A court battle followed and while it looked like Khosla’s fancy lawyers would win this one, the surfers totally stuck it to “the man”, and a California court issued the milestone ruling yesterday that restores public access to a beach, meaning surfers can come-and-go across Khosla’s land as they please.
Epiiiic.
