Jacob Zuma might actually be paying back some R10.6 million originally meant for security upgrades at Nkandla. Seriously.
A few ANC-linked businesspeople have said that a solution is “being sought to end the parliamentary and political crisis sparked by the debacle”. We all know that the majority of the country is astounded with the amount that’s been spent on Nkandla, and it really should be paid back.
“A way needs to be found to make people understand that the president was not responsible for the inflated costs of the project, or the illegal decisions, but still has a responsibility to repay some money. It’s a delicate process.”
Yes. Absolutely. The cost of the fire pool, the millions spent on landscaping, the vegetable packing house… JZ has absolutely no responsibility for any of these things… But, a report by the Special Investigating Unit has basically cleared Zuma of any fault, and instead focuses on former Cabinet members, Nkandla architect Minenhle Makhanya and civil servants from public works.
