Ah, greed. One of the seven deadly sins, and rightfully so. Just take a look at the back and forthness of Mr and Mrs Tokyo Sexwale’s divorce.
Judy Sexwale is going back to the courts with a request for higher maintenance fees from Tokyo. She is wanting R150 000 a month (instead of the paltry R50 000 she is currently getting), and a contribution to her mounting legal fees.
“They lived a lifestyle of great extravagance.”
Judy has produced papers obtained by her legal team of Tokyo’s monthly expenses, which are almost R2 million.
She is also complaining that the Sexwale trust will not buy her a house in Cape Town, and that her and their two adult children have had to move four times in the past year. She currently only gets R55 000 a month to use on rent.
Tokyo Sexwale says that Judy thinks he is a billionaire, where the family is actually “comfortable” financially. She also complained that whilst her ex is continuing to live a life of luxury, she has had to dramatically change her lifestyle. Poor thing.
To make things trickier, Tokyo Sexwale has denied owning the R60m Sandhurst home, the R8m Houghton home, the R30m Oude Kelder wine farm in Franschhoek, the Indian ocean island, the R100m pad in Clifton… (the list really is rather endless). But, back in 2004, Top Billing interviewed the Sexwales at the wine estate, and the home was ‘filled with friends and food and wine’. Does he own it? Did he ever own it? I doubt he even knows. Should Judy get her slice of the cake? So many questions.
“She says she once led a life of “great extravagance” with overseas holidays, private jets, helicopter day trips, private bankers and lavish gifts including – for several years – a R1-million cheque at Christmas.”
Maybe someone should just eat a piece of humble pie and GET A JOB.
