Pastor Tenitone Bologun Joshua, AKA TB Joshua, has thousands of followers from all over the world. And, whilst the bible states that “salvation should be free”, it sometimes comes at a price.
“Pastors are no longer solely interested in getting people to Heaven; they’ve devised intelligent ways to make good money while reaching out to souls.”
TB Joshua has his own jet, and has travelled all over the place. His church, the Synagogue Church of All Nations’ Emmanuel, posts his message via YouTube.
With the collapse of his church’s building in Lagos last week, he is making international headlines, with Forbes naming him one of the wealthiest religious leaders in the world. How’s that, hey? His followers must literally send him envelopes of cash.
Joshua has an estimated fortune of between $10 million and $15 million, and has donated at least $20 million to “causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programs for former Niger Delta militants”. He has over 15 000 worshippers on Sundays, and owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network.
“(TB Joshua) has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of incurable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis.”
His church also has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece. An estimated 67 South Africans are feared dead after the building collapse.
