A new entertainment streaming service has launched in South Africa and it’s pretty rad.
As we know, to stream any content from the interweb is a pretty slow and patience-testing ordeal. This is mainly because of our useless internet services in South Africa. But with the launch of VIDI, we will finally be able to catch up with the world to enjoy something that is not too distant from Netflix.
As with Netflix and Amazon prime, VIDI uses a technology called adaptive streaming, which detects speed and quality of connections and automatically adjusts the quality of the video accordingly. So the same user with the same device – computer, tablet or smartphone – could watch a grainy image from one location, and get it in full high-definition from another. No more than a 1Mbps line is needed to get the basic experience.
Easy game.
All you need is a 1Mbps line and you will be able to stream your favourite entertainment. VIDI only starts out with a small amount of movies in their library, but will build over time, and in the future become a threat to the likes of DSTV and Amazon. Especially with monthly subscriptions at R149 a month for unlimited streaming, or rentals available from R15 up to R27 for “for recently off-circuit content”, VIDI seems like a worthy competitor.
They also offer a 30 day FREE trail period to all South Africans…
