According to the rest of the world, us South Africans live in constant fear of being murdered or raped or attacked.

In 2011, the United Nations released stats that out of 100 000 residents, 30.9 would be murdered.

We live in homes surrounded by ten-foot walls and electric fencing.

Is it going to be enough, this living with a “fearful mindset ” of life, to get Oscar off?

“(South Africans) have trained themselves to be constantly wary of safety risks within their own homes. The country is so racked with violence that many middle-class houses are surrounded by 10-foot walls and come equipped with “rape doors” to keep intruders out of bedrooms.”

Pistorius claimed in his affidavit that he had this mindset, and that he genuinely thought there was an intruder in his bathroom. He says he felt “terror” and felt “vulnerable” without his prosthetic legs.

It is going to be an interesting day for all.
