Mamphela Ramphele, founder of the short-lived political party Agang, and now killer of small businesses.
Ferial Haffajee, who writes for City Press, has written an open letter to Ramphele. In it, Haffajee brings to light the dire situations that Ramphele has left many small business owners and party members in.
“On platform upon platform, you valorised small and medium-sized businesses as the engine room of a future economy.”
One former Agang member has yet to be paid for months of work, and had to sell small assets to enable her to live.
Small businesses who printed posters and pamphlets have not been paid and are suffering, some coming very close to closing. One business owner, Tracy Tarry, has had to “take loans against her home” due to not being paid by Ramphele.
Dr Ramphele certainly isn’t short on money either, reportedly having over R55 million in assets, and a lovely home in Camps Bay.
