Hey, at least we’re not at number one.
Venezuela gets that spot, having the second highest murder rate in the world.
The list is odd – most of the countries mentioned have glorious beaches, beautiful monuments, and decent weather. OK, we can take Poland and Russia out of that category, and leave them with a lot of snow, “burdensome tax systems” and trying to deal with the Ukraine situation.
Speaking of, the Ukraine is having to deal with an international plane crash situation. They are not happy about this.
Brazil has a slow economy, and the Philippines has “major infrastructure problems”. Slovakia’s economic growth is “stifled by corruption” (sounds familiar).
Italy is miserable because they are in their third recession since 2008 (no-one can afford to dress in head-to-toe Versace but they do) and Colombia, known as the “world’s supermarket for illegal drugs like cocaine and a hotspot for related threats of violence, kidnappings, and guerrilla war” has a legitimate excuse.
But places like Greece and Spain? Surely they just spend their days sailing to pretty islands and throwing tomatoes?
As for good old South Africa, we are dealing with HIV, over 25% unemployment, crime, “unstable electricity supplies” and the government, to name a few. But, with beautiful beaches, beautiful people, an abundance of wild animals and good surfing, surely we can look past the negative? We should be happier…
