The “spy tapes” are on everyone’s minds (or at least they should be).
Finally ordered to be handed over to the DA by the Supreme Court of Appeal, there’s much speculation about what is on these tapes.
The tapes should contain “the recordings and documents the NPA used to justify the dropping of corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma in 2009”. Included on the tapes are recordings of conversations “between people involved in Zuma’s prosecution, which showed a political conspiracy against him”.
In a battle that lasted five years, the National Prosecuting Authority handed the tapes to DA leader Helen Zille yesterday.
The DA has spent over R10 million in legal fees over the tapes, so let’s hope the battle has been worth it.
“The DA strongly believes former NPA acting head Mokotedi Mpshe was under political influence when he decided to drop charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering against Zuma.”
The DA hopes to make a bid to have Zuma recharged. Zille has told supporters that this could take years.
