Student Rape Victim Is Now Carrying Mattress Around Campus [Video]

In an act that’s half art-performance, half-protest, a Columbia University student is carrying around a mattress wherever she goes as long as she and her alleged rapist attend the same university.

Emma Sulkowicz, says that she was raped by a classmate on that very mattress, but the university reportedly “mishandled” the sexual conduct case, and the alleged rapist is still at the university.

So, for her visual arts senior thesis, Sulkowicz has titled what she is doing as “Carry that Weight”, which obviously is a literal expression of that emotional weight she bears.
