It seems like the Dalai Lama’s local rep is trying to sway the media’s attention – why? No one really knows.
The Dalai Lama is currently waiting on a visa application for South Africa to be processed, and all seems to be in order, as confirmed by international relations and co-operation department spokesperson Clayson Monyela.
“[The] SA High Commission in India has received a visa application from the Dalai Lama. The application is going [through] due process. No denial.”
But Nangsa Choedon, the Dalai Lama’s rep, has been telling the media that the visa application was denied and the government “conveyed by phone to me they will not be able to grant the visa for the reason that it would disturb relations between China and South Africa”.
Patience, Nangsa. These things take time.
