Here’s a newish mockumentary to keep you entertained…
The White Folks follows three South African families living in Plattekloof, Cape Town. It’s created by and starring Lisa Lane Drennan and Mia Cilliers, and is a great poke at our diverse country.
“You know poor people. Like, from Africa or whatever. I was actually thinking, like they’re so lucky they don’t have internet. Like actually, it’s a blessing in disguise. ’Cos I’d rather not have internet than have to wait for a video to buffer. It’s ridiculous.”
There is the White Family: Chantelle, the self proclaimed “home exec”, Wayne, her husband, who wishes his son would play rugby, and poor Arnold, who just wants to be a deejay.
Across the road live Nicolette, Ferdi and Mauritz Roos. Nicolette is Ferdi’s new wife, and Mauritz is less than happy with her existence.
To top it all off is Nandipha, or Nandz, the White’s domestic worker.
Season two will see the addition of Linda and Carien, an interracial couple.
It is so good to laugh at the stereotypes we create in society, and The White Folks makes it quite easy.
