Whilst the The Duchess of Cambridge won’t yet do a Vogue cover, she has had no say in becoming a character from The Simpsons.
In his new series Born to be an Icon, Alexsandro Palombo, an Italian artist, depicts Kate in her Alexander McQueen wedding dress, and her favourite dresses from designers such as Alice Temperly and Diane von Furstenburg. But she is not all perfect skin and bright eyes – Kate has been turned into a yellow character from The Simpsons.
Palombo started his career as a fashion designer, but moved over to art in 2005. Because of his influence and name in the fashion industry, he as been able to draw the likes of Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld and Disney Princesses, and helps to raise awareness on topics such as eating disorders, domestic abuse, animal rights and Gaza.
“While some may find his works to be insensitive, Palombo has received praise from advocate groups and their respective communities.”
He has redrawn Disney Princesses missing limbs to bring to light the fact that “one out of every five Americans has a disability of some kind”.
Let’s hope the princess actually appears in an episode of The Simpsons soon. Preferably with the Queen.
