American freelance journalist Steven Sotloff has been held captive by ISIS for over a year. He was held with James Foley until Foley’s execution last week.
In the video, Sotloff’s mother, Shirley, speaks directly to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi al-Quraishi al-Hussaini, the self-declared caliph of the Islamic State.
“Ms. Sotloff’s appeal is almost certainly the first time a non-Muslim has acknowledged his authority.”
Shirley asks that the caliph spare her son’s life and return him to her. She goes on to say that her son can’t control the actions of the US government and that he is an innocent journalist.
“Islam teaches that ‘no individual should be held responsible for the sins of others’.”
Seems like Mr Baghdadi needs an update on what his religion believes.
