At the very least, we should be happy that someone is asking for part of the Nkandla millions to be paid back.
Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, wrote a letter to President Jacob Zuma, cautioning him that he should pay back some of the money spent on Nkandla that has nothing to do with security (like his swimming pool, amphitheater and cattle kraal).
Then on Tuesday, Madonsela was criticized by ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe and his deputy Jesse Duarte that she is “meddling in politics”.
So she turned to Twitter to put her views and opinions across:
“Can someone please say how exactly is the deepening of accountability a weakening parliamentary democracy… Let’s face th truth. What’s embarrassing the country is attempts to subvert the rule of law & not administrative scrutiny [sic].”
Madonsela made a good point by saying:
“We-are in trouble when politicians meddle in the investigation processes and leak documents then cry foul [sic],”
She was referring to the fact that her letter to Zuma was possibly leaked by the ANC to the media, and strangely coincided with the EFF dancing through the National Assembly last week.
Pity about all the spelling errors, but we get the point.
She then went on to say that if “everyone respected the Constitution and the law, there would be no crisis in the country.”
