Before the whole cast of Generations got fired, they asked for an increase in their wages.
The 16 main cast members were being paid R16 000 a week, and were complaining that this is not enough. They’re asking for R30 000 a week (which is still nothing when compared to what the cast of Friends was earning per episode back in 2004).
Along with the salary increase, the cast also wants signed three-year contracts to the show, and royalty and syndication fees for any episodes played overseas.
The majority of South Africa will never even earn R16 000 a week, so should the cast members be happy with this amount, or should they fight for their increase? Are they being greedy and wanting more money for shiny new cars and flashy jewellery? Their new possible wage of R30 000 a week will ensure them R1.4 Million per annum.
That’s at least one awesome holiday, a handbag at duty free, and Christmas presents for the kids. If they scratch around I am sure they could even find something for a charity of their choice.
