The Islamic State released a video showing the group beheading a US photo-journalist, James Foley, on YouTube. An executioner made Foley read a message stating that America is his real killer; he was then beheaded.

The video is horrific, but a strange feature in is it that the executioner had a British accent – and some further information about British expats joining the ISIS has been revealed.

“We are very concerned by the apparent fact that the murderer in question is British,” said British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond.

“We’ve been saying for a very long time that there are a significant number of British nationals both in Syria and Iraq operating with extremist organizations. That is one of the reasons why this organization [Islamic State] represents such a direct threat to the U.K.’s national security,” added Hammond.

It’s also been revealed that the British man who was the executioner in the video is one of three UK citizens known among jihadists as the “Beatles,” who are in charge of holding foreign hostages in the Syrian city of Raqqa. This is all according to a former hostage.
