If winning two Best Actor Academy Awards wasn’t enough, Tom Hanks has decided to take over the app market with his new app, Hanx Writer.
The hipsterish iPad app transforms your normal keyboard and text screen into an old-school typewriter, and it’s now made it to the top of the US iTunes App Store, ranking No. 1 in both the Productivity section, as well as Overall.
The app also allows users to switch between a few different typewriters, such as the Hanx 707, Hanx Golden Touch and the Hanx Prime Select – all made-up, but resemble classic models.
“I wanted to have the sensation of an old manual typewriter – I wanted the sound of typing if nothing else…cause I find it’s like music that spurs along the creative urge. Bang bang clack-clack-clack puckapuckapuckapucka… I wanted the ‘report’ of each letter, each line,” said Hanks about his motivation to create the app.
