Microsoft is attempting to tap in even further into the emerging markets of the world by introducing a low-cost smartphone.
The Nokia 130 will cost around €19 (around R270), and will feature a 1.8-inch colour screen, music and video players, an FM radio, USB charging capabilities, and most importantly, a torch – something which even the snazziest of smartphones seem to lack.
The phone also features a hefty battery life (36 days’ standby for the single-SIM variety and 26 days’ standby for the dual-SIM), and includes a microSD card, which can be expanded to 32GB if needed.
The handset is due to go on sale in the third quarter of this year in select markets, including China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam.
