We all know that as we, the human society, evolve, so does our language. In this case, though, it seems more like we are devolving… The new words added to the official scrabble dictionary are deeply saddening…
Hasbro and Merriam-Webster announced that the fifth edition of The Official Scrabble Player’s Dictionary will include 5,000 new words, including selfie, hashtag, bling, chillax, dubstep, vlog, schmutz and buzzkill.[…]
The big-ticket new word is “quinzhee,” which earns players a whopping 401 points if used in a strategic spot on the board (the word means a “shelter made by hollowing out a pile of settled snow”).
We are, however, quite pleased to hear that twerking did not cut the mustard, and with this being the first new release in 10 years for the vocab aficionados, it does not seem like it will be sneaking in any time soon.
