Two white students who dressed up as black domestic workers for a private 21st birthday party have caused an uproar on social media, and the University of Pretoria, where the girls attend, has now taken disciplinary steps.
The two young girls painted themselves and stuffed pillows in their pants “to make their bums look bigger.” The two young girls were attending a private function and it was not on the university campus itself.
“The investigation began yesterday [Tuesday],” UP spokesperson Nicolize Mulder said on Wednesday.
With regards to the SA Human Rights Commission, the group said it was not investigating the case as it did not receive a complaint.
“We didn’t receive a complaint in this matter, we just learnt about it in the media,” said spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
