In one of the most brutal attacks yet, launched against Damascus-held territory, Isis have killed at least 50 Syrian soldiers in beheading executions. This almost medieval like act was followed by a gruesome display of the disembodied heads around the town.
This is like a scene from a particularly gruesome movie and it is hard to believe that this still happens in our day and age. What makes this more horrific still is that many of these soldiers were captured as prisoners and then routinely executed so that their heads could be displayed.
The deaths added to 74 already killed in the offensive across the north and northeast, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Friday (local time).
“At least 50 soldiers were ambushed, some of them were killed in fighting but most of them were beheaded,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.
IS militants claimed the toll was as high as 75.
