Yet again, we see video evidence of police taking the law into their own hands. No one is suggesting that being a police officer is an easy job, and it is unquestionably rough territory, but in these instances, and many others, the force used seems excessive.
Like the video we posted just earlier this week, this clip shows a man being put into a (illegal) choke-hold by police officers for resisting arrest. Also like the previous clip, there is no previous context included in the clip – people are usually far more interested once things get physical.
In the new video, which was recorded on July 14 and circulated on Facebook, two uniformed NYPD officers struggle with a handcuffed man at the 125th & Lexington subway stop in Harlem at 3 p.m. The cops instruct the man to put his hands behind his back and submit to being arrested, but as he refuses, one officer punches him squarely in the face multiple times while engaging him in a textbook chokehold. Drops of blood can clearly be seen on the tiled floor as several bystanders record the incident on their phones and chastise police.
In theory, the NYPD are banned (by themselves) from using the choke-hold… this is clearly not what happens in practice. Twice in one week? Great job guys. Hope the bad press is worth the arrest.
