If the insane video of Red Bull’s Aces wingsuit race wasn’t enough to wet your appetite, the X-Fighters freestyle motocross tour is coming to South Africa, and it’s bringing the noise.
The best FMX riders in the world are set to go head-to-head with bigger tricks, fresh rivalries, and brand new locations to help push and grow the sport of freestyle motocross to new heights.
The World Tour 2014 kicked off in Mexico, then moved on to Japan, Spain, and Germany, and will now be heading to Pretoria on the 23rd of August, and we’ll have a hometown hero to back when the action heats up.
Nick de Wit will be flying the SA flag and going up against some of the best riders in the world on the final stop, and “Sick Nick” won’t be pulling any punches.
Nick started competing when he was 17, and now the 28-year-old already has some regional and competition wins under his belt, and has already competed in the X-Games and been ranked as high as fifth in the world.
Having the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour at home is huge for me. I don’t think people here in South Africa realise what calibre of event it is. I have participated in a couple of them and to now be able to ride one here is a dream come true.
You definitely need to prep for this event. It is one of the toughest FMX competitions in the world and I will be going up against the world’s top riders. There is a lot of mental prep that I need to do, as well as riding and physical training, too. I am spending a lot of time on my bike, just refining my old tricks and learning a few new ones to throw out during the event.
Nick even participated in all the 2005 / 2006 Night of the Jumps series in Europe and helped to organise the first Masters of Dirt sessions in South Africa.
The final event of Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2014 will take place on 23 August at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
