The time has come for the remaining six Super Rugby teams to give it their all if they’re to survive the grueling knockout stage of the prestigious tournament. The Sharks, Chiefs, Brumbies, Crusaders, Waratahs and Highlanders remain, and there’s two massive encounters this weekend that’ll see two teams move that much closer to Super Rugby glory.
Firstly, the only South African team remaining is that of the Sharks, who, under Jake White, have had a stellar season and finished on the overall log in third place, which is not bad considering their injuries and setbacks.
Pat Lambie returns to the bench following a lengthy injury period, which will give the team some playmaking fire-power off the bench. The Highlanders, on the other hand, have also had a brilliant season under the leadership of Ben Smith. Outside centre Malakai Fekitoa has been one of the standout players of the tournament and will need to be targeted by the Sharks’ defence if they’re to close down the men from Dunedin.

The other playoff match sees the Brumbies hosting back-to-back champions, the Chiefs, who will be looking to secure their third Super Rugby title in a row – something no other team has done.
The Brumbies have been playing solid rugby once again, and the likes of Matt Toomua and Christian Lealiifano have been giving defenders nightmares all season. The Chiefs have no shortage of firepower either though, with Aaron Cruden in fantastic form and captain Liam Messam playing some of the best rugby in his career. This will undoubtedly be a cracker.
