According to one of the more recent studies on violence against women in South Africa, our country has one of the most outrageously high rates of gender based violence worldwide.
Not a stat to be proud of at all. In addition, Naeemah Abrahams, a senior researcher at the Medical Research Council‘s gender and health unit, previously said that the rate of female homicides in South Africa was five times higher than the global rate.
It’s a sad reality to come to terms with. While changing the mindset of the general population is obviously a necessity, this does tend to be a fairly long-term goal. In the mean time, South African women need to understand how to defend themselves, as well as overcome the fear of weapons, and Gun Fun is the best place to learn the safety of handling and using firearms.
Cape Town’s local indoor shooting range could give you a taste of what it’s like to fire a variety of different guns, including the 50 Cal, while also learning about the DO’s and DON’Ts of self-defence.
The specific ladies self-defence course consists of a lecture on being aware of your surroundings and alert to what is going on around you, along with the self-defence options available to the female target. The options include the use of pepper spray, edged weapons, improvised weapons and firearms.
You can check out the prices of the various packages on the Gun Fun website.
2oceansvibe’s Aimee got a chance to experience the activities and lessons at Gun Fun, and if you’d like to find out more, remember to tune into The Abstract AIMEE Show at 11am on 2oceansvibe Radio on the 2nd of August to hear the LIVE interview with the Gun Fun crew.
