2014 has already proven to be a cracker of a year for movies, with some massive blockbusters and smaller films really making an impact on audiences worldwide, and The Daily Beast has put together a list of the best movies of 2014, so far.
Here’s 7 from the list that we thought deserved a shout-out:
- Snowpiercer – “Set in a future where a failed climate-change experiment kills all life on the planet except for a lucky few who boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, where a class system emerges.”
- The Grand Budapest Hotel – “The adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.”
- The Raid 2 – “Only a short time after the first raid, Rama goes undercover with the thugs of Jakarta and plans to bring down the syndicate and uncover the corruption within his police force.”
- Palo Alto – “Shy, sensitive April is the class virgin, torn between an illicit flirtation with her soccer coach Mr. B and an unrequited crush on sweet stoner Teddy. Emily, meanwhile, offers sexual favors to every boy to cross her path – including both Teddy and his best friend Fred, a live wire without filters or boundaries.”
- Bad Neighbors – “A couple with a newborn baby face unexpected difficulties after they are forced to live next to a fraternity house.”
- Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – “In the wake of a disaster that changed the world, the growing and genetically evolving apes find themselves at a critical point with the human race.”
- Only Lovers Left Alive – “A depressed musician reunites with his lover, though their romance – which has already endured several centuries – is disrupted by the arrival of uncontrollable younger sister.”
