Owning a news network gives a person great power. If Rupert Murdoch says climate change is not a big deal, Fox News says it’s not a big deal. Fair enough, have your own view but report news more responsibly than that…
Seems when you are Rupert Murdoch you don’t have to worry so much about responsible broadcasting. In part, we guess this is because in some cases he is wrong, he won’t be around much longer to have to worry about climate change anyway, but this is not the shocking part.
Speaking to Sky News Australia (which he partially owns), Murdoch dismissed the alarming reports coming from scientists about the devastating impact that climate change is causing to the planet.
“We should approach climate change with great skepticism,” he said. “Climate change has been going on as long as the planet is here. There will always be a little bit of it.”
Murdoch acknowledged that the changing planet could wipe out small countries like the Maldives, but he had a quick fix for that.
“We can’t stop it, we’ve just got to stop building vast houses on seashores,” he added. “The world has been changing for thousands and thousands of years, it’s just a lot more complicated today because we are more advanced.”
Um… ok? We aren’t really sure you have grasped what climate change means there, Rupert. How about if we build tiny little houses on seashores, is that ok? Better yet, lets all camp… life-long beach party anyone? That sounds epic! You are a genius Rupert…
Oh but hang on, how will that reduce carbon emissions that are building up and insulating the globe? True, climate change is inevitable, but there is also little doubt that as human beings our ever expanding industrial activity is accelerating and changing natural cycles… right? Or are we all just being paranoid?
