Having a loved-one killed in any way is an incredibly difficult ordeal for those left behind to process and work through. This is an especially difficult grief for a parent who loses a child – no matter what age their child is at the time.

With anger and resentment being a fairly normal part of the grieving process, it says a lot about the character of Reeva Steenkamp’s mother, June,  for her to say that she has forgiven Oscar.

On Monday Hello! magazine published an interview with June Steenkamp.

“I don’t hate Oscar,” she told the magazine.

“I’ve forgiven him. I have to – that’s my religion. But I am determined to face him and re-claim my daughter. It’s important for him to know that I’m there, that Reeva’s mother who gave birth to her and loved her, is there for her.”

The bereaved mother also said that she feels her daughter’s presence with her constantly and that she feels as though Reeva will only be able to truly rest in peace when the trial is over and the truth is revealed. This does beg the question we have long since been asking:  which version of events is the truth?

Judge Masipa, although experienced and obviously wise to the tactics of lawyers, is after all just one person. Does her ruling decide the truth?
