You would think a pilot would be one of the few people who would be sympathetic to the stringent security measures airports put in place now-a-days, but not his guy! He clearly felt like they were being ridiculous… so he followed suit in protest.
Unfortunately, the security at Harare International Airport didn’t think it was very funny and banned him from flying the plane.
According to Zimbabwe’s The Herald website, a Captain W van Ginkel was detained after stripping down to his underwear when asked to remove his belt during a security clearance precaution on Tuesday.
“He [Ginkel] simply undressed at the security checkpoint. He was arrested for public indecency. He paid a fine but in terms of aviation regulations we could not allow him to fly the aircraft anymore after that incident,” CEO of Zimbabwe’s Civil Aviation Authority David Chawota was quoted as saying.
Regulations really say you may not take off your pants at a security check point and if you do you will be banned from piloting the plane. Really?
We are pretty sure that any one of the passengers aboard that SAA flight would rather have left on time with a pant-less pilot than hung around the airport for FIVE HOURS while a new crew was flown in from SA.
