The Springbok rugby captain has ruffled some COSATU feathers (probably not even intentionally) by wearing a camouflage scrum cap for the game against Scotland last weekend.
COSATU are highly offended by the scrum cap and say it is offensive to “black players” because it is reminiscent of the caps worn by the riot police during the apartheid era.
Cosatu said Matfield did not grasp the effect this had on black people and proposed he rather wear a cap with the country’s new national symbols.
Cosatu reportedly asked Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula to intervene at the SA Rugby Union (saru) which it claimed was an “old boys club” which gave preference to white players.
Saru said it would not comment at all.
Here it is…
Oh yes, those caps are identical how could we miss it? Here’s how…
COSATU… camouflage print is used by armies WORLDWIDE – including our own democratic current defence force. Are they racist too?
