Surrounded by some of the most beautiful views in Cape Town, Pollsmoor Prison is neighboured by some very upmarket, pricey estates. When real estate in the area sells for as much as R20-million, why wouldn’t the government want to get in on this?
In response to a parliamentary question on Tuesday, Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi said a feasibility study on the possible disposal of the two prisons was under way.
The study was undertaken following a request from the Department of Correctional Services.
It is fairly common knowledge that prisons are fairly full around the country so it is more than a slight worry where they will now put the prisoners currently housed here.
This minor aside, the sale of the property could lead to some exciting possibilities for the real estate.
