Owning a personalised piece of music memorabilia can fetch quite a hefty price, and a handwritten draft of “Like A Rolling Stone”, written by Bob Dylan himself, has been sold for a new record amount.
The original written piece was sold for $2 million (around R21.2 million), which beats out John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics for “A Day in the Life,” which sold for $1.2 million (around R12.7 million)
The manuscript is “the only known surviving draft of the final lyrics for this transformative rock anthem,” auctioneers Sotheby’s said.
The item itself is basically four pieces of paper featuring a hotel letterhead, with the lyrics to the popular song scribbled down, albeit with some revisions, additions, notes and doodles: a hat, a bird, an animal with antlers.
