There is protecting young children from being sexually exposed and exploited, and then there is being overly prude.
Instagram, in this instance, cost this mother all her family snaps because she posted an adorable photo of her four year old daughter lifting her shirt.
Courtney Adamo branded the photo-sharing site “ridiculous” after receiving a warning email which told her the photo, featuring the toddler wearing yellow welly boots and knickers staring down at her belly button, was “inappropriate”.
The photo was then automatically deleted from her feed.
The mother-of-four checked the Instagram guidelines and, convinced she had not broken any codes of conduct, reposted the photo.
But a few hours later she discover her account had been shut down, blocking all of her 1,700 pictures. […]
“It is no different than a photo of a baby wearing a nappy, or a little boy in swimming trunks, and to entertain the idea that it is even remotely inappropriate is a disgusting thing in itself.”
Instagram have reinstated her account and apologised for their overcautious actions.
What exactly was offensive or inappropriate about this photo, Instagram: is it the cute round belly of a small child, the chubbly little legs or the fact that this is a little girl?
Molly-coddled society much?
