Jewellery And Gadgets: Local Bonnie And Clyde Crime Couple Siphoned R8.7 Million From Road Traffic Bank Accounts

Husband and wife cyber-criminals hit the Road Traffic Management Corporation and score big, but are just not clever enough to escape the authorities.

Paying a traffic fine can be a shameful excersise, but knowing that the money was then being stolen from the Road Traffic Management Corporation makes it even worse.

Little did we know, a fair share of SA motorists have been funding our own local husband and wife cyber-crime gang, Darius and Janene Rhoda, who have been siphoning the money out of the RTMC account in order to splurge on jewels, gadgets and casinos.

Their spending spree took place at upmarket Gauteng attractions such as Sandton’s Nelson Mandela Square, and the Gold Reef City, Monte Casino and Carnival City casinos.

Where the money went:

  • R25000 on Apple computer products;
  • R6-million on watches, diamonds and emeralds;
  • R6000 on SAA tickets; and
  • R50000 on sound systems.
The account was said to be hacked thanks to rogue insiders, who installed key-logging hardware on computers used for online banking. The couple were smart until they decided to move a vast amount of money 50 times in a short period of time.The Rhodas, and their accomplices, apparently spent around R8.7-million before being arrested.
