Those majestic beasts that provide us with the glorious life-juice we now call milk need to be looked after, and dammit, they deserve it.
Animal welfare is a main priority for Fair Cape, but while those udder-wielding mammals are a huge focus, the dairy farms Care initiative also takes seriously good care of their workers, caretakers and associated charities – because those are crazy-important too.
The charities include the Little Fighters Cancer Trust, CANSA, The Cancer Alliance, Peninsula School feeding association, WWF, and The Big Issue.
Fair Cape’s tea ladies, known as the Dashing Divas (and rightfully so), are the backbone of the farm and in the on-going aim to improve their aspirations, Fair Cape is providing the Divas with training – namely computer courses, budget management, admin training, etiquette skills and the learning of a variety of principles of success.
Learning through courses is one thing, but the farm is also giving the Divas the taste of other jobs in the company, which will see the fabulous ladies job shadow in areas they find interesting.
This will not only expose them to new parts of the business, but also give committed employees the chance to grow out of their current roles and become senior staff members, whether it be in marketing, HR, IT and/or admin. If that’s not empowerment in its purest form, we don’t know what is!
And the empowerment doesn’t stop there – as it’s good to up your baking skills too. So Fair Cape has provided an easy way to make delicious choc chip yoghurt muffins. Get those aprons out, people.
