Many of us wouldn’t particularly declare: “Gosh, after this hard day’s work, I could really use a good, solid Brandy”. Many of us would rather opt for a beer, glass of wine or whiskey to scratch the itch. It seems strange that we’ve neglected one of our SA’s finest liquors – good ol’ brandewijn.
Brandy was the classic South African drink, until about the 90s. This was when other international brands of spirits, such as vodka and whiskey, hit the SA shelves, taking over the liquor market with their fancy branding and brainwashing.
And what a pity this is – South African brandies are acknowledged to be the best in the world – with KWV winning numerous awards in the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) awards held in London in 2013.
The Belmond Mount Nelson is stepping up to the challenge and helping restore the love of Brandy in South Africans, sip by sip, with their exquisite brandy and tapas pairing.
Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel is offering a belly-warming brandy and tapas experience this winter. The specially created menu of ten fabulous potstill https://www.aldaorg.net/buy-zovirax/ brandies matched with Chef Rudi’s favourite “brandy bite” pairings (actually they are quite substantial portions), is a celebration of South Africa’s proud brandy heritage, and of course it is the most perfect foil against an icy winter.
Having had this awesome experience myself, it’s wonderful to taste the different brandies paired so well with different foods.
Younger brandies such as the Tokara 5 year old potstill show luscious fresh fruit aromas and flavours, and they go well with smoked meats such as beef pastrami; […] The more mature brandies typically feature cigar box, vanilla and dried fruit notes, and so the Van Ryn’s 15 year old Fine Cask Reserve has been paired beautifully with duck bitterballen and mustard”
The duck bitterballen, guys. That is all.
The Brandy and Tapas menu is on offer throughout winter at the cosy Planet Bar or if you prefer to sit at a dinner table, you are welcome to experience this menu in Planet Restaurant too.
