It was confirmed yesterday, by police, that a case of fraud was being investigated regarding Agang SA’s missing R13 million, but they asserted that there were no suspects at this time.
The details are very fishy, though, and it is clear there is a lot of suspicion surrounding Ramphele’s name continually popping up with regards to this case. For starters, the account which is being investigated is in her name, along with another party official, and in spite of her decree that she would be taking a break to recover from the elections, she is named as a signatory on the account.
There have been confirmed reports of fraudulent signatures for the second signatory to the account, but no one seems to think Ramphele’s signature has been forged. This is suspicious, no?
Included in the money feared stolen is R65845 paid by the Independent Electoral Commission to AgangSA for the two parliamentary seats the party won in the May 7 election.
Also feared stolen is the R1.3-million the party owed the SA Revenue Service, and about R10-million it owes to service providers.
Other funds also appear to be missing, bringing the total amount not accounted for to nearly R13-million.
Perhaps we are paranoid because of the ridiculously high levels of corruption we have seen from previous government officials but perhaps our paranoia is founded. Read more here and tell us what you think… is Dr Ramphele defrauding her own party?
