It is pretty common knowledge that the best weather prediction is to look out the window, feel the temperature, and dress accordingly, but with the knowledge that it may change at any moment. Because weather is not set in stone as soon as the forecast goes up… it is in fact subject to change: SHOCK AND HORROR!
Ok, weather forecasting to tell you what the day is going to be like may not always be so spot-on but there are other functions of a weather service that are important, like monitoring storms or heat-waves.
In North Korea, it seems the meteorological services are a bit behind the eight-ball due to the supposed ability of their previous leader to control the weather with his mood (read more here). Kim Jong Un has identified this as a problem that needs to be rectified for the safety of his people.
Rodong Sinmun reports that Poppin’ Fresh is quite pissed that his country’s weather forecasts are inaccurate.
Kim recently visited the country’s hydrometeorological service, where he met the forecasters and told ’em what for:
He said that there are many incorrect forecasts as the meteorological observation has not been put on a modern and scientific basis, adding that only when meteorological observation and forecast are done properly, is it possible to protect the lives and properties of the people from disasters caused by the abnormal climatic phenomenon and prevent various fields of national economy including agriculture and fishery from natural disasters in good time.
“It is necessary to fundamentally improve the work of the Hydro-meteorological Service in order to scientifically clarify meteorological and climatic conditions and provide accurate data for weather forecast and meteorological and climatic information required by various fields of national economy in good time”, he noted.
The Vane further assured all weathermen (and lovers of weathermen) that Kim Jong-Un made these recommendations and criticisms with “deep, loving care” – phew! We need not fear the wrath of the North Korean leader… He is pissed in a loving way.
