Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has gone down as a cult-classic, as the coming-of-age story struck a chord with viewers back in 1986, and still does to this day. Even though it’s been out for more than two decades, there’s still some things you may have missed in the comedy masterpiece.
1. June, 5, 1985 was probably Ferris’ real day off, as worked out by the Braves-Cubs baseball game he attended.
2. Mr. and Mrs. Bueller were a real-life couple, as the two actors who played Ferris’ parents fell for one another after the movie.
3. Matthew Broderick was actually engaged to his on-screen sister, Jennifer Grey. They never worked out, and Broderick went on to marry Sarah Jessica Parker.
4. Mia Sara – who played Ferris’ girlfriend, Sloane Peterson – was the only real teenager at the time of filming, even though the movie was about high-school kids.
5. Painter George Seurat’s famous work, “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte,” is the work that Cameron appears to be so mesmerized by.
6. Cameron’s father’s smokin’ red Ferrari California Spyder was actually a fake.
7. Charlie Sheen really wasn’t ‘on’ anything during his scene in the film. He was only suffering from sleeplessness to help him with the part.
8. Though the film took place in the greater Chicago area, the Bueller residence was actually a house in Long Beach, California, as uncovered by a movie scout. Hollywood trickery…
9. Look closely and you’ll discover every license plate in the movie has a meaning. Jeannie’s which read “TBC” was a homage to director John Hughes other film “The Breakfast Club”, while Principal Rooney’s read “4FBDO”, for, you guessed it, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
