While ogling at Table Mountain or at the glorious wine farms around the Western Cape, you better be careful not to push past the speed limit.
The Western Cape transport department and traffic police announced that fines for traffic offenses will increase on 1 August 2014.
And by “increase”, they mean up to three-times as much!
Serious offences would cost an offender R5000, up from R1500.
Other driving offences would cost R3000, an increase from the current R1500 fine. Less serious offences would be increased from R500 to R1500.
The goal of the heightened fines are to improve road safety and compliance in the region.
