In an impressive feat of bravery and trickery, a group of men devised a fake wedding plan to help transport their fellow Syrian comrades into Europe to seek asylum.
Gabriele Del Grande, an Italian journalist and migration activism, sold the idea to his mates, filmmaker Antonio Augugliaro and the Palestinian poet Khaled Soliman Al Nassiry, that a wedding procession destined for Sweden would be the perfect cover, and was not only brilliant, but would make for an excellent documentary, disguised with the secret name: “On the Bride’s Side”. Al Nassiry committed to directing the film, and their plans were formed.
The plan was to get Syrian refugees from Italy to Sweden, so they roped in a bunch of strangers, who were in asylum themselves, to form the fake wedding party. Bows and wedding vehicles in-tow, the crew headed through Europe without a hiccup.
