Hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix race in your city can not only be loud and irritating due to road-blocks, but it can also bring in some unwanted business in the wrong areas.
That’s exactly what women-rights group Femen Quebec was fighting against at the recent Canadian Grand Prix hosted in Montreal, as Femen believes that the annual race “stimulates the very profitable sex industry in Montreal and brings sex tourism to the city.”
The ‘girl trade’ belongs to organised crime; pimps use sexual and physical violence, manipulation and threats to force women to prostitute themselves to answer the huge demand for sexual services during the sport event.
And they have the numbers to back it up, as there is a significant spike in the sex trade industry around the time of the Grand Prix, which doesn’t help combat the problems associated alongside it. They’re also not too happy with the use of pit-girls, who are often over-sexualised and used as “prizes” of sorts.
So the girls donned some dildos, painted themselves with some shock-value text and crashed the Grand Prix parade, climbing on the F1 cars themselves and making their cause known.
