Forbes has listed the best of the best when it comes the most powerful of the fairer sex, and this year, the list is packed with some familiar faces and newcomers.

Included in the list of powerful ladies are nine heads of state, with number one on the list (spoiler alert) being German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Also featured is the youngest self-made female billionaire and founder of Spanx, Sara Blakely (pictured above, centre). You go, girl!

Some of the new faces include Janet Yellen, the new Federal Reserve chair and first woman to hold the position, Ambassador Samantha Power, Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina, Bloomberg Philanthropies CEO Patricia Harris, Chinese search giant Alibaba’s Lucy Peng and SpaceX COO Gwynne Shotwell.
