Going to the absolute EXTREMES to get out his marriage, Pakistan resident Mohammad Iqbal killed his wife so that he could be with Farzana Parveen, who was also tragically killed after it emerged she had refused an arranged marriage proposal, so she could elope with Iqbal.
Iqbal’s son was the one who eventually told the cops that his father had killed his mother to be with another woman.
“I wanted to send a proposal to Farzana, so I killed my wife”, said Iqbal.
Iqbal coughed up 80,000 (around R8,463) rupees and gold jewelry to Parveen’s father in order to marry his daughter. All seemed fine until Parveen’s father and brothers changed their minds, and demanded 100,000 rupees (about R10,579) to let the couple stay alive.
That’s when things got really ugly and Praveen’s father and brothers tried to teach Farzana a lesson for commiting an “honour crime”, by killing her for bringing dishonour to the family.
Police said they had arrested Parveen’s father, whose name they gave only as Azeem. They said he had admitted to the killing and expressed no regret.
